Worker falls to death from Mobile Bay platform

(5/24/2004 - OGI: Houston) A worker on a production platform in Mobile Block 113 offshore Alabama in Mobile Bay fell to his death yesterday while installing equipment. The man, whose identity is being withheld until his family is notified, fell through the floor grating, according to Petty Officer John Lolley, with the US Coast Guard, which is investigating the accident.
' The incident occurred about five miles south of Dauphin Island in the US Gulf of Mexico's Mobile Bay region. The worker's body was recovered from the water beneath the platform and taken to Dauphin Island shortly after 12:30pm.
The Coast Guard Marine Safety Office in Mobile, which is conducting the investigation into the death, said it appeared to have been caused by the impact from the fall.
