Flow declares force majeure due to elephant reserve

(6/28/2010 - OGI: Perth) Flow Energy, operator of Kenya's Block L6, has declared force majeure on its production sharing contract obligations due to restrictions placed on the company and its operations by the Kipini Wildlife and Botanical Conservancy, an elephant reserve that is within the concession.
The reserve provides a modicum of protection to elephants in the area from poachers who kill them for their ivory tusks. It is also the habitat of many rare animals and birds and its shores and waters the home of sea turtles and dolphins. Kenya's National Environment Management Authority is attempting to keep disturbance to the area at a minimum, and at this time the Kipini Conservancy is not allowing access to Flow to carry out an assessment of the potential detrimental effects its exploration and development of the area could cause.
Flow is the operator of Block L6 with 60% interest in partnership with Pancontinental Oil, holding the remaining 40%.
