The ERCB spokesman, Darin Barter, said today that the blowout blasted oil mixed with steam into the air and over the project but did not cause any significant injuries. He said it is still not known how much oil was released but that six wells in the project have been shutdown and an audit is to be undertaken to determine the volume of spilled oil. The Jackfish oil sands project. Barter said the ERCB is taking the blowout very seriously and wants to be sure any issue on the site that contributed to it is resolved. He said the well was not brought under control until yesterday after some 35 hours of operations to kill the well.
