Amity spuds Adatepe-4 onshore Turkey
(4/27/2004 - OGI: Perth) Amity Oil reported today it has drilled its
Adatepe-4 exploration/appraisal well to a depth of 715 meters and
intermediate casing has been run and cemented to a depth 712 meters. The
Adatepe-4 well is located approximately 6 km southeast of the Gocerler
gasfield and 960 meters west of the closest offset well, Adatepe-1. It is
being drilled in Block AR/AOI/3648, in Area A of the Thrace Joint Venture
and is located approximately 120 km west of Istanbul in Turkey's onshore
Thrace Basin.
Howard McLaughlin, Amity's managing director, said the company is carrying
out cleanup operations and waiting for cement to dry to install the blowout
preventer.

"The Adatepe-4 well will be drilled to test the prospectivity of a possible
gas-filled channel at the near top Osmancik formation, underlying the
productive Danismen formation that both Gocerler and Adatepe produce from,"
said McLaughlin. "The prospect is defined by strong seismic amplitudes at
Osmancik level as evident on the Gocerler 2002 3D seismic data. Seismic
amplitudes have been successful in identifying gas saturated sandstones in
the overlying Danismen formations at
Adatepe and Gocerler. The seismically identified Osmancik channel extends
beyond mapped structural closure at the Osmancik level to the southwest."
He added that the Adatepe-4 is being drilled to a total depth of 5,578 ft
(1,700 meters) into the shales of the Osmancik formation and will penetrate
some 117 meters of the formation. The well is interpreted to be 50 meters
down dip to Adatepe 1 at the top Osmancik horizon. The overlying Danismen A1
1173 gas sand is expected to be encountered 30 meters low to Adatepe-1. The
Danismen A1 1173 sand is the main gas bearing and producing reservoir of the
Adatepe Field.

The Adatepe-4 well is being drilled with a modified KCL-polymer mud to avoid
the high level of reservoir damage commonly associated with conventional
overbalanced drilling of the sensitive Thrace sandstone reservoir units.
Formation damage arises from the presence of water sensitive interstitial
clays, particularly within the Danismen reservoir sandstones. Smectite,
illite, and chlorite constitute a significant proportion of the rock and are
prone to expansion on contact with water.
Amity is the operator of the concession and the Adatepe-4 well with 50%
interest. Turkiye Petrolleri (TPAO) holds the remaining 50%.
