Petrobras' giant FPSO P-54 to be built by Jurong Shipyard

(6/8/2004 - OGI: Singapore) SembCorp Marine reported today that its subsidiary Jurong Shipyard has won the US$1.066 billion contract to convert the VLCC Barao De Maua into the P-54 floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) for Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras).
SembCorp said this will be the sixth conversion for Petrobras since 1997. Engineering, procurement, and construction will be handled on a turnkey basis by Jurong Shipyard and its Brazilian operation at the Maua Jurong Shipyard. Work is expected to commence in August and require approximately 38 months.

The Barao De Maua.

On completion, the P-54 will be one of the largest converted FPSOs in the world, with a capacity of some 180,000 b/d. It is to operate for 25 years without drydocking, with oil produced from 13 wells, with another eight water injection wells, all tied into the FPSO via flexible risers. Produced and treated gas will be transported to shore through another flexible riser connected to the vessel.
The P-54 will be stationed on the Roncador Field in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil. It will replace the FPSO Seillean, which has been handing early production.
