Aker Marine Contractors gets Baobab FPSO project
(4/28/2004 - OGI: Houston) MODEC International has awarded a subcontract for
the Baobab FPSO project to the Aker Kvaerner subsidiary, Aker Marine
Contractors. The floating production, storage, and offloading vessel is to
be stationed on Canadian Natural Resources' 200 million-bbl Baobab Field in
Block CI-40 some 25 km offshore Cote d'Ivoire in waters approximately 4,000
ft deep.
The MODEC contract is for installation of the mooring system and connection
of the FPSO and will be performed onsite off Cote d'Ivoire. The scope of
work includes operations planning, transport of the mooring system from Aker
Marine Contractors' base at Stavanger to the Baobab Field, and
pre-installation of the anchors and the bottom chain. Upon delivery of the
FPSO at site, connection of a polyester segment in each line will be
completed during hook-up. Aker will be employing the recently delivered BOA
Deep C deepwater construction vessel to carry out the operations, set to
commence during the first quarter of 2005.
