Let's not mince words - the Ill-informed governments of Europe and the United States should stay out of the present division of Iraq and stop trying to make that artificial state into something it never was. It was, in fact, created after World War I when the British and French carved up the defeated Ottoman Empire, with the British taking the Ottoman provinces or vilayets of Baghdad, Mosul, and Basra, as well as Palestine and Jordan, as a mandate, and the French taking what is today Syria and Lebanon (as well as a sizeable part of southeastern Turkey...⇒⇒⇒
